Katie Simko is a Choral Director, Music Teacher, Soprano, and Singer/Songwriter who has always loved making music. She believes that music is not only an art form, but a powerful tool for communication, compassion and deeper understanding.
Originally from the Greater Philadelphia area, Katie moved to Massachusetts by way of Wheaton College where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2010. Katie then received her Master of Arts in Music Education at Boston University in 2012. Katie has taught music in the Massachusetts Public Schools since 2012, and is now the Director of Choirs for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District. At Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School and Miles River Middle School, Katie leads six vocal ensembles, music directs productions with the drama department, and teaches general music classes. Ever since her first choir tour to China with Germantown Friends School, Katie has been passionate about singing abroad. She has gone on tour with Singing City Choir of Philadelphia to Brazil, The Balkans and South Africa under the direction of Jeffrey Brillhart. These tours not only broadened Katie's musical interests but also her understanding of the world, and this has left a lasting impact on her. Outside of teaching and singing choral music, Katie is a songwriter, solo performer and recording artist. She released her EP, Perfect June in 2015 and three subsequent singles including her latest, "First Sight" in November of 2020. Katie is always writing songs and planing her next project. She also enjoys performing on the stage, and most recently starred in a local production of "My Fair Lady" at Stage 284 in Hamilton in 2018. Katie resides in Andover, MA with her husband and two sons where she enjoys cooking, playing with her boys, and spending time outdoors. |
